Building a Healthier Chicago works to create a culture of healthy living in Chicago’s major social settings through four initiatives focused on the unique opportunities of work-sites, faith communities, schools and restaurants.
Through our Worksite Wellness initiative, Building a Healthier Chicago created the state’s “Illinois Healthy Worksite Designation” and offers a toolkit for employers interested in worksite wellness best practices.
Powered by Faith, Chicago
Powered by Faith, Chicago is a model for large cities to strengthen the capabilities of faith communities seeking to create a culture of healthy living in their congregations and neighborhoods.
Eat Real Chicago!
Through Eat Real Chicago!, Building a Healthier Chicago promotes access to healthy, sustainable and affordable foods in Chicago’s schools and neighborhoods. Each year, the Eat Real Chicago! Team hosts the Chicago Food Day celebration in October.
The F.I.T. City certification, which is earned by Chicago restaurants of all types who fill their menus with nutritious and local food, has already been awarded to more than fifty restaurants in twenty-one neighborhoods and the Midway Airport concourse.
